Return to Play

Rovers Parents,

We hope you and your families continue to be happy, healthy, and safe during this time.  As we enter stages of reopening across the state, we want to share an update regarding our Rovers return to play status.

As you may be aware, Governor Murphy announced that on June 22nd, outdoor sports can begin with restrictions depending on the risk factor of the sport.  For example, baseball, softball, and SOCCER are considered medium risk sports.  In this case, small group training and practices can occur June 22nd with activities being limited to non-contact drills, practices, and simulations of game situations.  On July 6th, traditional practices and competitions are expected to resume for medium risk sports.

However, municipalities retain the discretion to open or close fields or facilities.  Along those lines, we received communication from the Borough that while they are now open to aligning field openings with the Governor's announcement, each sport will need to provide a written plan of anticipated activities along with how we will remain compliant with the Governor’s Executive Order and "Guidance For Sports Activities" document produced by the New Jersey Department of Health. Upon plans being reviewed and approved, sports may return to the field. In addition, our strategy must align with New Jersey Youth Soccer.

Over the coming days, the Rovers Board will develop and communicate our strategy to the Borough. For those coaches who wish to begin summer activity, you will be hearing from them soon. What are some anticipated changes you and your Rovers players should expect?

Similar to the guidance being provided by many sports leagues, some of the changes could include, but not limited to:

  • Signage at fields related to social distancing
  • Signed waiver to return to play
  • Prior to each practice/activity, completed questionnaire specific to player's health

Social distancing during training

As we move forward, we understand every family could be taking a different approach to sports.  If you don't feel comfortable returning to the field, don't and move at your pace.  For those who feel comfortable, players and parents will be expected to comply with the rules for the safety of everyone.

As always, we expect our Rovers family to set a great example in the community!

Stay Safe
